MILLWORK 18’

KITCHEN REMODEL

Project Brief

For this project, students were assigned to work with a client to redesign their existing kitchen with the goal of making the space more functional and open. We were given a list of requirements and desires from the client, but otherwise were given free reign in terms of how we transformed the space.

In preparation for the redesign, we visited a locally known cabinetry producer/designer and got their insight on the process, preparation, and delivery. This allowed us to see the process from start to finish and understand all the work required to create a successful kitchen redesign.

Existing conditions

Above are the existing conditions of the clients kitchen. As you can see, the client's kitchen is outdated and in need of a revamp. With approval to expand into the dining room area, I explored options to enhance the kitchen's size and functionality. The only limitation was the fixed overhead soffit due to structural constraints.

space renderings

The primary goal for the kitchen redesign was to create an open, functional space. The previous layout was cramped, limiting movement. Utilizing the dining room area increased the footprint of the kitchen and improved flow.

To brighten the space and create an inviting atmosphere, I selected white marble countertops and backsplash paired with soft blue cabinetry. The design fosters a calming mood, making it a comfortable space for the family to cook, converse, and share meals together.
