SUMMER studio 18’

take it to the streets | pop up shop

Project Brief

The story of Jordan Moser became the main focus of our studio project over the summer. Jordan Moser, a young man from Cincinnati, was campaigning to become mayor of Cincinnati. Alongside him was Ed Chaglen, his advisor and right hand man. The young candidate and his partner sought to change Cincinnati for the better, and to do so he needed a space where he could develop his strategy, meet with possible voters, and campaign. In this case, we were allotted a 200 square foot area to create a fluid and inviting space for Moser and his team. However, the space itself could not be inside a structure like a corporate building or general office. It hand to stand alone.

When thinking about this project and the space, I decided I wanted to take on the pop up shop route. Pop up shops are great because they are extremely flexible in that they can be moved whenever need be. I specifically wanted to create a space that could be rearranged easily, allowing Moser to have more opportunities to meet with people. Instead of creating a pop up “shop,” I created a pop up campaign office.

The most impactful aspect of the pop up office is the ability to move. Since the pop up shop is mobile, it allows Moser and Chaglen to target areas around town with high volume.

This diagram highlights events occurring Downtown from June to September. I specifically targeted these months due to the time frame in which Chaglen would need to campaign and work on swaying voters. Therefore, the map focuses on the key areas where popular events are conducted. The map itself further iterates how flexible and useful the pop up shop aspect is to Moser, allowing him to cover vast amounts of area without completely uprooting his work.
